
The ‘Taylor’s Version’ strategy: Re-recording music albums

Swift’s move to re-record and re-release her albums, labelling them as ‘Taylor’s Version’, seems to have paved the way for a change in the world of music. On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Taylor Swift regained control of her creative work, meaning not only of her musical works but also of the master recordings. Although there is an interesting backstory explaining Taylor Swift’s decision, in this presentation, we focus on the legal grounds that made it possible. Copyright, licensing, and commercial transactions form an exciting world, and this case confirms it.
